Choosing a template

How to choose a nice template for your website?

Is a question that is sometimes asked via chat. In general, it doesn't matter what way you create your website. Either you start from scratch and build your entire CSS yourself or you use a Content Management System with space to activate an existing template or theme.

Themes and layouts can be purchased in a few ways. However, we always recommend to check out what other people think and how the template is built. Also, the latest updates are good to check first. With this you can make sure that your theme is well maintained and your website remains safe on your hosting. If there have been no updates for months then you can take into account that this also may not be safe anymore.

A few nice themes to quickly put together a website are not hard to find. Especially if you don't want to add a CMS then a website will be ready in no time. This is especially easy with simple websites that are for example for a portfolio or a showcase. The advantage of this is also that a bare HTML website is also lightning fast and small. So you know that at least you have a lightning fast website.

Most of the templates available are made with Bootstrap, which is an existing framework in which layouts can be easily created. Bootstrap is also widely used in Content Management Systems such as WordPress hosting. A Bootstrap website is a good first step for many people. It requires little technical knowledge to populate an existing HTML website with your content. The templates can often also be imported into a Content Management System such as Umbraco hosting. In many cases it is possible to convert to a CMS later on. This is an advantage when your company grows and there are more colleagues who also have to maintain the website.

How do you put a bootstrap template on your hosting?

That's easy and quick with an FTP client like FileZilla to upload to the wwwroot folder. The index.php file will then automatically be found by web.config and your new website is live! You can then also easily edit it using FileZilla to modify your website live. See the articles from our knowledge base for more information on setting up and working on your website hosting.
