My Site has been hacked what now?

It can happen, you go to your website and suddenly all alarm bells go off from your Virus protection. Or you are redirected to a site that spreads Malware. This is of course very annoying and quite scary, because now what? Your income and website are no longer accessible and you lose all your customers who are looking for you.

But now the solution. You have 3 options.

Option 1 Restore a backup

Restore a backup of your web hosting for the situation.

It may sound easy but then you know for sure that everything will be restored correctly. A backup can be made in several ways, only the database in most cases is not sufficient. If you have a WordPress or Joomla site then many files in the wwwroot are often overwritten with Malware. Use our backup tool in the control panel or a scheduled task.

Option 2 Cleaning

If you have not made a backup then things get a little trickier. The files will have to be cleaned up manually. It is easy to see in the file manager on which dates the files were last modified, that way you can quickly see which files are infected. Often the Malware is at the top or bottom, however this is not a fixed rule. If you have a WordPress site then it is best to hold the "bare" WordPress files next to it for comparison.

Option 3 Start with a clean slate

If you can't figure it out or there was nothing of value on your site yet then the last option is to just delete the site and start over. Then you can be sure that there is nothing left that can do harm.
