How can I install Umbraco(FTP)?

This article covers the installation of Umbraco.

The first step is to download the installation package from the official Umbraco site.
After that you can extract the zip file to your desktop and upload it to your hosting space > wwwroot.

For this you need:
An FTP account and an FTP client like FileZilla.

You also need an MS-SQL database or a MySQL database. With the corresponding user + password of course.

The folder wwwroot will look like this:



The installation will ask several times to overwrite various files, you can apply this.
The file web.config which by default is already in the wwwroot will be overwritten / deleted.
This is to give priority to the web.config file of Umbraco.

You can then go to a browser of your choice and enter your URL. You will now see the installation page of Umbraco appear.



Here you enter the data for the administration account and then press Customize.
The next screen you enter the database data, this depends on your server + database type.
You can check this in the control panel and enter it in the screen.



You will then see an option to choose a template, or press no thanks. The choice is yours.




After this Umbraco will be installed and you can wait until the installation is finished, at the end you will be redirected to the admin area.




Umbraco is now installed and you can get started with your new website.
