Why do I get a winmail.dat file as an attachment in my email?

When you receive an e-mail with an attachment called winmail.dat, then this mail is probably sent by someone who uses Microsoft Outlook with Rich Text Format (abbreviated RTF). The format of this message will be read without problems by Microsoft Outlook ( or Hotmail). The message does not contain the attachment winmail.dat.

Only when this e-mail is opened in another mail client or webmail will winmail.dat be added as an attachment.

To receive this message correctly, the sender will have to change the message format to `Plain text` or `html` format.
