Introduction of Google Discover

Google Discover is a news feed from Google that can be used in addition to Google Search to get website traffic. But how do you use it and how can you make the most of it for your website? That's what we're going to cover in this blog post.

Google Discover is the ability to view a number of different newsworthy sources on mainly smartphones. It's where people or users can look up where they're searching and view a number of different types of websites. Google Discover focuses a lot on topics that interest you. And use Artificial Intelligence to determine what you like and find interesting besides the topic. They also use your voice data and search queries when you use this on your Android phone. In a conversation about a vacuum cleaner, a search for a new vacuum cleaner or a repair, it can already be used to suggest new content from websites you've already visited or other sources.

Useful, of course, or not, depending on how you feel about privacy.

Introduction of Google Discover

As a webmaster, you can use this to your advantage to attract visitors to yourwebsite hosting. Let's say you have an interesting news about your website niche, a new recipe or any other content that is interesting in the eyes of your visitors. Then, the article can be optimized for Google Discover. This is done with the following tips.

Show content in Google Discover

Google itself states that there is no specific location or tag to specify in order for your content to appear in Google Discover. Google Discover will either display an article or not. And that's entirely up to Google's discretion. However, there are a number of things you can consider when publishing your content. And those are the following things, according to Google:

Page titles that aren't clickbait, but capture the essence of the content

Avoiding false promises and the familiar tactic of hiding the reference to the article at the bottom. So that all ads and links have to be viewed first.

Avoiding drama, i.e. writing about emotional topics and basing titles on them. Read clickbait titles again.

Writing interesting articles that give a unique insight into the topic, have a different point of view or cover the current situation.

Include a clear date when the article was written, information about the author, the company or organization behind it, and contact information to better establish EAT.

Create good images that are larger than 1200px wide, are original, and have the maximum image preview: large in the robot settings.

The content itself

Google's goal of Discover is to display articles that interest the reader. While the above things should certainly be applied, it's also important to have the content itself in order. With a personal website, I managed to get a number of articles into Google Discover. These were also articles that consisted mainly of longer content that took me a few days to get into. Rushed content that is of lower quality has pretty much no chance of ranking in Google Discover. Try to write unique content with unique insights into the topic. For example, a fresh perspective, your own experience in the field, and the use of media to further illustrate points.

Check for spelling errors, use shorter paragraphs, and use proper headings to further break down the article. These, in addition to the rules, are the best tips we can give you to rank in Google Discover.

Google itself also says that relying on Google Discover alone is not the right approach, but should be seen as a supplement to your normal traffic within the Google search network.

Track Google Discover results

The only place you can track how your website and posts are doing within Google Discover is Google Search Console. Here, you can immediately see which articles are being displayed and how much they are being displayed. And finally, clicks. This is a requirement to install or sign up to see this. The majority of webmasters will already have Google Search Console set up on their site. If you're not using it yet, you should enable it on your domain immediately. You can do this with a simple txt record that you create in DNS, wait for the DNS to update, and have it checked in Google Search Console.

Analyze the results over a longer period of time than every week. Personally, I have found that the results of a particular page are not visible until at least a month later. So it doesn't make much sense to check them every day, for example. That time can be better spent creating new content!
