ChatGPT shared conversations are visible to everyone
With the widespread adoption and use of AI in the workplace, more and more information is being shared with it, including sensitive information that is better left private. Conversations shared via the "Share" option in ChatGPT are searchable with a simple Google command, making them "visible" to anyone on the internet. Find out now what can be viewed in ChatGPT and how you can prevent this.
Google indexes all conversations within ChatGPT that are shared via the share option, with just the following search within Google it can be viewed by anyone.

If this is the case, it can be viewed by anyone who has the will to execute this command. Competitors can search specifically for your company name, for terms that you frequently use on your website, or even for people or customer data. So it can be dangerous if you or your colleagues use this sharing feature, and many people will not be aware of it. ChatGPT warns when a link is shared, but experience shows that people don't always read carefully.

What can you check?
If your organization or company uses AI, then it is wise to check the following.
- Check your conversations with ChatGPT and ask your colleagues to do the same
- Search via Google using the search function with your company name or frequently used terms
- Throw this into the group at the next meeting and inform your team about the possible consequences
- Delete shared conversations with sensitive information in them
Delete shared conversations
To delete previous shared conversations, you can follow these steps in ChatGPT: Go to your profile at the bottom left and click Settings in the menu.

Then go to the Data Management tab and click on the Manage Shared Links option.

You will then see a list of your shared conversations again, which you can delete on the right-hand side via the trash can.

We are still at the beginning of the potential consequences of artificial intelligence, and things like this could have drastic consequences for companies and individuals if information becomes freely available on the internet. It could also just happen that you ask ChatGPT to enter the sales figures into a spreadsheet with the turnover, and then you quickly forward the link to your colleague with the "Share" option. A few weeks later, you may find that this list has been viewed by your competitors or malicious parties and this information is now being freely shared on social media.
Of course, private matters or personal tasks that you entrust or ask ChatGPT to do and then share can also be damaging, perhaps not as cut-throat as a company's customer information, but everyone asks ChatGPT (or Google, of course) questions from time to time that may be better not made public.
So check now if your business is vulnerable to this and discuss with your team that this could be a risk.
