Basics of keyword analysis explained

Keyword optimization, keyword research, these are terms you may have seen come up when starting your website. A website can be found in many different ways. With a good keyword analysis you can make sure that your website will appear faster in the Google search results. Let's cover the basics in this blog post.

SEO or Search Engine Optimization is a game that takes a long time, in almost no case is it the case that after publishing your website, page or post you see results immediately. This is where effort is required. That's why researching the keywords you have in mind is important. As long as you start creating pages and content all for the wrong keywords and no one searches on them. Then it's often wasted effort. Therefore, let's discuss a number of tips that you too can use to attract more visitors to your website.

Keywords explained

Keywords are terms and combinations of words that people use to search for information on the Internet. To give some examples we have listed a number of terms below.

Example 1 = "plumber Amsterdam"

Example 2 = "Washing machine repair"

Example 3 = "Washing machine repairs"

Example 4 = "Best washing machine under 500 euro"

All of these keywords or search terms are of interest to a number of drastically different websites and companies. Namely, it is interesting for a plumber plying his trade in Amsterdam to rank high in the search results for the first example. For the second example, a plumber or handyman might write an interesting piece about the benefits of their service when having a washing machine repaired. In this result, people will expect more information of what is involved in a repair. More than just the term of example 1. This is what people are often looking for when they have a problem right now.

In example 3, people will often expect a blog post that covers how to repair a washing machine yourself. What steps to apply, what tools do you need, and what are the most likely parts to need to be replaced. This term is interesting to write for a blog because of the affiliate links that can be mentioned in it. For example, recommend that one tool which is a must have for repairs.

In example 4 it can be very interesting for web stores to create a certain landing page for this which extensively covers what the best washing machines are under a certain budget. And of course immediately a contact number with an expert who can further make the choice with the customer.

So you soon see that a relatively small adjustment in the search term can make a big difference.

Long tail keywords

Long tail keywords are like the example 4. Longer terms that may have less search volume, but can be particularly interesting to target. These terms are in fact action oriented, and have buyer intent as it is called. People search for them because they want to buy something new. Therefore it is very interesting for webmasters with an online shop or affiliate website to be on top. You can adapt this principle to almost any search term.

To come up with new ideas you can also use a number of tools. The first logical place to start is Google itself. Enter your terms and see what else the autosuggest suggests. As you can see in the image below, entering the terms yourself at the top is often enough. And you can see even more suggestions at the bottom.

Measuring and tracking results

Measuring and tracking the results of your performance on search engines are of course the usual suspects. Like Google Analytics and Google Search Console. Wherein emphasis on the latter. Here you can see exactly what happens on your website and how it appears in Google. Also the terms and keywords.

From this you can determine whether you also appear for the terms you had in mind while creating the content in the hosting. And it can also be determined if there might be other terms that you can still use or connect to your existing texts.
