Google is introducing AI reports and a new opt-out feature in Search Console

A new feature was launched today in Google Search Console in the United Kingdom. Now is the time for website owners and marketing professionals to pay close attention: there are special AI performance reports, as well as a button that lets you specify whether your content may be used by AI or not.

In this blog post, we’ll tell you about these new features and how they affect your website at MijnHostingPartner.nl.

1. Insights into AI performance

The reports are slowly but surely becoming clearer, but so far it’s still not easy to tell exactly what’s currently coming from LLMs—or from the various AI providers, such as Google with Gemini, ChatGPT, and the many other providers joining the fray.

For example, how often does my website appear in the new AI overviews or in Google’s AI mode? Fortunately, Google is now beginning to roll out a special report on generative AI performance in search.

What can you see in this report?

Unfortunately, you can’t view this directly yet, as it’s being rolled out in the UK first and will therefore take a while to become available here. However, the following is included in this report:

• Impressions: How often your website links appeared in AI responses.

• Pages: Which specific pages of your website are cited by the AI.

• Countries & Devices: Where your target audience comes from and what devices they use.

Please note: Google does not yet provide click data (CTR). So while you can see that you’re being displayed, you can’t (yet) see how often your website is actually clicked on.

2. The “AI Switch”: Stay in Control

One of the most talked-about updates is the new toggle in Search Console. With this, Google gives website owners the option to block their content from AI search functions.

This is a direct result of stricter regulations (including those from the United Kingdom and the EU) as well as publishers’ demands for more control over their intellectual property. So you can choose to disable this feature and at least let Google know that you don’t agree with it. However, it remains to be seen whether others will do the same

Important to know:

• No impact on regular SEO: If you decide to block your content from AI features, Google says this will not negatively affect your normal rankings in regular organic search results.

• Loss of traffic: If you choose to “opt out,” you simply won’t appear in AI summaries anymore. This may mean you miss out on potential traffic, but it protects your content from unauthorized use by AI models.

Why is this important?

At MijnHostingPartner.nl, we ensure the speed and stability of your website, but we also make sure you can be found. The introduction of these reports helps you adapt your content strategy for the future:

1. Measurement is knowledge: Once the feature is widely available in the Netherlands, you can see if your blogs or product pages are “AI-worthy.”

2. Strategic decision: Do you want AI to take over your answers (which can lead to “zero-click searches”), or would you rather have users go directly to your website? You’ll soon have the choice.

When can we expect this?

The features are currently being rolled out in the United Kingdom as a test. However, Google has confirmed that they plan to make them available worldwide in the long term. So keep an eye on your Google Search Console!
